2020 Skincare Favorites

2020 wasn’t a great year, but it was a great time to reset and refresh our skin care routines. Did anyone else feel like their skin has never looked better? I know mask-wearing has led to skincare issues for some including “maskne.”But I feel like learning to work around and avoid those issues has challenged me to re-evaluate and solidify my skin care routines and patiently test out skin care products.

Currently, I am loving all of the skin care products in my morning and evening routines, but I really wanted to narrow down my 2020 favorites to the ones that I could rely on throughout the year to rescue and maintain my skin’s overall well-being.

For reference: I have oily-oily/combination skin. My cheeks and center of my forehead tend to be the oiliest areas on my face. I tend to get hormonal acne around my mouth and chin, and using acne treatments on those areas generally leads to some dryness. I also struggle with hyperpigmentation and uneven skin texture due to post-acne scarring.

Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser by Krave Beauty ($16)

100% the perfect morning cleanser to prep my skin for the day. It’s a lightweight gel cleanser that gently cleanses the skin without drying it out.

Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore-tight Toner by Glow Recipe ($34)

A very soothing toner that hydrates the skin. It’s pretty viscous and has the loveliest watermelon scent. I use this at night after cleansing whenever I feel like my skin needs an extra boost of hydration. Now that it’s winter, I use it every night.

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% by The Ordinary ($5.90)

I’ve experimented with quite a few serums this year, but this is the only one that I’ve repurchased and can’t stop using. This truly helps to calm down acne and also even out skin tone.

The Water Cream by Tatcha ($68)

This is my holy-grail moisturizer that I can always go back to. Sometimes I use this both morning and night, but currently I’m only using it in the morning because I discovered a serum-moisturizer that I enjoy using before bed (Great Barrier Relief by Krave Beauty). But if I could only have one moisturizer, it would be The Water Cream.

The Beet Shield SPF 50+ PA++++ by Krave Beauty ($20)

I really didn’t think I would find anything that could replace my Tatcha SPF, but I love how gentle and hydrating this Krave SPF is, especially during these colder months.

Purity made simple pore extractor mask by Philosophy ($35)

This is my go-to face mask when I feel like my skin is excessively oily and congested. It does have a slightly grainy texture, which makes it useful for gentle exfoliation and the salicylic acid treats acne.

What were some of your skincare favorites during 2020? Any new discoveries you can’t live without? Also, how have you been combating mask-related skin issues?

    1. I’ve definitely heard of that Neogen essence! I’m interested to know the benefits you experienced as a result.

And I also hope you have a positive experience with Krave products. I was skeptical at first since Liah Yoo is more of an influencer than a skincare expert. But I am really impressed and I find the minimalist aesthetic pleasing.
