November 2020 Favorites

Happy December, everyone. I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy. Hopefully the holidays are something to look forward to (no matter how different they may look this year). This is my favorite time of year and I love that everyone started getting festive even before Thanksgiving.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Armani’s classic foundation made my November favorites because of my specific shade which is number 6, ‘Golden Beige.’ It’s described as a medium shade with olive undertones and it is the closest shade match to my skin tone compared to any other foundation I’ve ever tried. It’s the foundation that made me realize that I actually have slightly olive undertones, which would explain why even the yellowest foundations still look a little orange on me. This shade matches my face and neck perfectly, both of which are darker than my chest. I’m going to try mixing in a lighter olive shade or using a lighter concealer to even out my overall complexion with my chest.

I’ve tried this with a few different primers and applied it with different makeup tools. It’s hard to judge foundations these days since we’re all wearing masks, but I’ve found that the Luminous Silk (which is silicone-based) applies best with my fingers, over the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. The texture is amazing and gives even my oily/dehydrated skin the loveliest satiny glow.

Lip Combo: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in ‘Love Trap’ + Maybelline Superstay Lipstick in ‘Hazelnut Hypnotizer

I’m always on the hunt for a wearable everyday pink-brown shade, and I’m usually never satisfied. But I’ve managed to find a combination that I actually really like and will wear most days when I don’t feel like wearing anything else. Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat Lip Liner in ‘Love Trap’ is described as a peachy brown shade, but actually looks pink against my skin tone. Maybelline’s Superstay Lipstick in ‘Hazelnut Hypnotizer’ is a warm, pinky-brown shade that shows up just slightly orange on my lips by itself. But when I gently blend this with my finger over the CT ‘Love Trap’ lip liner, it becomes much more nudey-pink which is still on the warm side and is a great nude lip for the Fall. Note: Matte liquid lipsticks definitely last even under your mask.

Purity Made Simple Pore Extractor Exfoliating Clay Mask by Philosophy

This mask has been my go-to treatment when my skin is feeling extra greasy and breaking out more than usual. It is a little grainy, which is great for exfoliating and the salicylic acid treats acne. Even if my skin isn’t acting up, I like to use this 1-2 times a week.

Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser

This cleanser is the best morning cleanser I’ve ever used, full stop. It is a gel cleanser that is so lightweight and its faint green tea scent adds to its gentleness and freshness. After rinsing this off, my skin feels so soft, plump, and refreshed but never dry. I’m not sure if I can ever replace this!

Huge Deal (Wall Street #3) by Lauren Layne

Lauren Layne’s 21 Wall Street series is a fun adult/new adult contemporary romance series about some Wall Street hotties who are best friends and co-workers, finding the loves of their lives. I listened to the first two on audio last year and loved them, but never got to the third one, Huge Deal, which I purchased for my kindle earlier this month. This installment is about secretary Kate Henley who has a crush on her boss, Kennedy Dawson. When she finally decides to move on, Kennedy learns about her feelings and despite his claims that she’s “off-limits” to both him and his colleagues, he fights for his chance to prove they’d be good together.

Rebecca Minkoff Cupid Satchel (discontinued)

I’ve been in love with the Rebecca Minkoff Cupid Satchel for years after seeing a bunch of YouTubers review it. But that was during a time I could not afford any kind of designer bag and it was eventually discontinued. I came across the Cupid Satchel in Black via Poshmark and was so happy to purchase it. This is the bag I’ve been gravitating to for everything–work, errands, going out. I have it in the larger size and it holds everything I need. It has a lot of metal accents and zippers, so it’s a little chunky and heavy. I think it’s really pointless for the shorter handles to be detachable, but it all adds up to a super edgy and slouchy bag.

Cuyana Small Leather Zipper Pouch

Cuyana leather goods are so chic and well-made. The small leather zipper pouch is the perfect size for most handbags and totes, and I use it to hold all the beauty products I like to take on the go. I like to pay a little extra to get my Cuyana products monogrammed with my initials in gold foil.

Rothy’s Flats in Cheetah

I gave into the temptation to buy a pair of Rothy’s when I saw they had a Cheetah print pattern. I was nervous because I’ve heard varying opinions about Rothy’s sizing and I hate having to guess and exchange. I have very flat feet that are slightly wide and am a true 9 in most shoes, so I decided to go with my regular size in their classic flats…and they fit perfectly! They are very comfortable and I can’t stop wearing them. I also bought a pair of the classic flats in fawn (brown), the points in navy, and the square toes in black. I did size up to a 9.5 for the points and it was the right choice.

“The Christmas Bow” (2020) by Hallmark

Hallmark movies are one of the few things bringing me so much joy and comfort during these difficult times and one of my favorites that came out this year is “The Christmas Bow,” starring Lucia Micarelli and Michael Rady. The story is about a professional violinist who comes home to recuperate after injuring her hand and her physical therapist is a childhood friend. Music in Hallmark movies is usually like nails on a chalkboard to my ears (professional musician problems), but I do appreciate when musical characters are played by actual musicians. Lucia Micarelli’s violin playing throughout the film is so beautiful and she totally has “performer face” whenever she gets into the music (which is all the time, in this movie).
